Well, “HELLO!!!” to my long, lost blog! Did you miss me? It probably seems that I’ve completely given up on blogging, but actually the opposite is true. I’ve had so many ideas for things I want to blog about, but I keep talking myself out of writing them down.

So, what have I been doing for two months since my last blog post? A lot. Too many things to write about. However, I finally decided to just start somewhere, and I guess I will start with something that happened about six weeks ago.

I can remember the moment so clearly. I was walking through the family room. I was stepping over toys and growling at random socks thrown on the floor. I was frustrated by the messiness of my life. I was tired of trying to clean things up. I was feeling very hopeless about things, and I had this thought: “I wish I could be one of those really organized people.”

Clearing the clutter and organizing our spaces

I stopped in my tracks, which could have been dangerous because I might have landed on a pile of Lego or tripped over a ball.
“Wait!” I thought. “I CAN be one of those people!”

“I can change who I am,” I told myself. “I don’t always have to be the way I’ve always been. I can be organized.”

And I decided to start right that second. I bent over and picked up the toys and socks and a candy wrapper.

Starting at that moment, I started not only cleaning up, but I went much deeper than that. I started organizing.

And I have barely stopped since. I had a LOT to do! And I still have a lot to do. And once I get that done, I will still have even more to do. It’s bad.

I’ve been scared to write about it. To write about all the progress I’ve made would require me to admit just what a mess I am. But as things have started to improve, I’ve seen a lot change. I’ve been changing my way of thinking. I’ve been changing some really bad habits. And I’ve discovered a ton of amazing products that I never even knew existed before!

So, I’m going to start blogging about it. This might take a while, so please keep checking back! Here’s a sneak peek at a few of the many, many things I have organized the past few weeks and hope to tell you about:

I’ve been making my drawers cute:

I’ve been organizing our food:

I’ve been working on the closet… including all of my accessories!:

And even doing some DIY projects:

If you want to help motivate me to keep writing, will you answer a couple of questions for me? Do you consider yourself to be organized? Or do super organized people drive you crazy? Do you have a place for everything and everything in its place?

  1. Yes. If it doesn’t have a permanent home, then it’s permanent home should be the trash can. Not that our house is always picked up; that’s practically impossible with homeschooling five kids (4 kids and one walking tornado toddler). But, everything does have a home.
When in doubt, throw it out is my motto.
And yes, people tend to hate me.
    Blessings,
    Holly

    1. Holly,
That’s awesome! It doesn’t surprise me that you are super organized. Let me know if you have any good tips. I’m going to be writing more about it all this week!

  2. Hello New Emily!! So glad to see you. I am organized, not over organized as in everything is labeled and where it belongs. But I know where everything is. It all has a place, but we live here and life is ever evolving. So I try to go with the flow. With teens its the clothes and shoes…I don’t make them organize and put away. They will figure it out. Ask me where something is!!! I can tell you…Anything..

    1. OK, then… where is the Scotch tape? How about the Windex? What about the really small Phillips screwdriver? haha! Just kidding… Now here’s an easy one… Where’s your favorite Bruce Springsteen CD?

  3. I am a mega pile-maker, but I can tell you what’s in all of the piles. Super organized people do make me feel bad about myself occasionally; but I don’t care to get any more organized myself, b/c when we moved so often, everything would just be packed up every year & a half or so. We’ll see if I change whenever we buy the next house we’ll finally stay in for a long time.

    1. Sues, I totally would have guessed that you were really organized! I can totally see your point though. When you are moving so much, it probably seems futile to perfect the places where you are living. Thanks for leaving a comment!

      1. Futile = you hit the nail on the head!!! I am interested to see what happens to me next time we buy, though. I’ll probably get more serious about it. πŸ˜› And BLESS YOU for thinking I’d be totally with it!!! πŸ˜€ You made my week! πŸ˜‰

  4. Love this! You are doing great! (I am one of those strange people who get excited over organization projects!) I do consider myself to be organized, almost to a fault. I literally cannot even function if things are not where they are supposed to be. It is how my brain works best.
Btw- so excited you are back to blogging… I’ve missed you!

    1. Hi Kelly! I wish you were here to chat about organization! Too bad I didn’t really have time to think about this stuff when you were here. I know you probably have a million great ideas! πŸ™‚ We are glad to see that you are back home and blogging again, too!

  5. I absolutely love your website! Gorgeous! I have always been pretty organized. Everything in my house and office has its place. Same goes with digital documents. I need to be able to find something easily, else I go crazy.
I recently talked to my boyfriend about this. He knows that I am super organized and doesn’t mind it, but he is not like that. He is very neat, but not organized. He always wants thing to be clean and picked up but it doesn’t matter to him where it goes.
I am always trying to get more organized around the house, also started a blog on organizing and decoration. I’ll be following you!

  6. OK! You have definitely motivated me! I am not organized at all! In fact, I think a professional organizer would be afraid of me! But I am willing to learn. Reading on!

    1. haha… It’s soooo hard to get started. But once you start, you realize that it literally only takes a few minutes to clean something out. Then, you will want to do more and more!
